Following the success of his January 2019 Argus Gallery exhibition of re-styled pop icons and Golden Age Hollywood stars, Chaz Buscaglia embarked on a body of work he titles “Custom Pictures.” Buscaglia seeks out imagery from video stills and Google Earth and combines them with his own freehand drawings to depict complex scenes from his imagination, full of humor and intriguing details for the viewer to discover upon closer examination. Teaching Artist Raisa Mehltretter knows Buscaglia well but is unable to elaborate on these mysterious paintings, other than to say they are deeply meaningful to the artist. “Looking back on things Chaz said to me over the years, I think deep down he has always wanted to create these paintings. Chaz has had these paintings on his mind for a very long time.”
