Erich Haneberg is interested in consumer products, and he has two distinct approaches to making art. The first is to create ballpoint pen drawings on 4×6 index cards, of shopping carts, candy bars, T shirts, and other popular items. Some drawings are naturalistic and show objects in perspective, while others are symbolic “logoized” interpretations, or reproductions of actual logos. Haneberg’s second approach is to create paintings on canvas with simple compositions and large, flat areas of color. Sometimes Haneberg combines these two approaches by recreating his index card drawings in paint on canvas or attaching the index cards themselves. Haneberg’s work has been selected for several notable exhibits including the Erie Art Museum’s annual juried Spring Show in Erie, PA, “Think BIG,” at the Castellani Art Museum of Niagara University, and “Spectrum Language” at the Christine Frechard Gallery in Pittsburgh, PA. His “T Shirt on TV” painting series was exhibited as the centerpiece of the show of the same name at Big Orbit Gallery.
